when using the key board to move in the xy, why doesnt it stop when it reaches the limit switches. Is there a setting that will make it stop to keep it from grinding?

Your limit switches should light up when you move to them, you should either drop your motors or disconnect them and manually move the carriage to each limit so see if that switch lights up. If it doesn't, it could be several things, check to be sure that the limit switch is extremely close to the limit bolt. The limit switches are triggered by metal and if they are wired correctly they will light up at the switch and trigger the stop.... Hope that helps.
Check 'VN' (Values Input/Output) and see if your limits are set to ON or Off (first parameter).

well the lights come on BUT it doesnt stop when using the keyboard to move it. It just goes right past. Does yours do that?
Did you check your limit switch setting (VN)? Sounds like they're OFF.

Hi Scott thanks for responding. I did check the limit switches and they are on. The lights light up when using the keyboard and the gantry comes to the limit switches BUT it doesnt stop it just keeps going past it .
In that same fill-in sheet, check to see that switches 2 and/or 3 are set properly also, depending on your model, PRS or PRT.

Using the keyboard disables the limit switches on my machine
There may be a few versions of SB3 that do this, but v3.8 acknowledges the limits even in K mode. You have to make sure that the limits are ON in VN. It is possible to override the limits by lifting off of the arrow key momentarily and pressing it again to go past the limit.
