    Default Milled Boxes

Making a few presents and some left to sell. A local stair company gives me scrap for a few boxes back. Double sided milling on the lids. And the second pic is what you guys will ask about, my vaccum jig.

Your boxes log great! How do you register the lids on the vacuum jig to machine the other side?

The jig registers to a straight edge on my table. I keep separate files in Aspire for each part, base or lid. I have two spaces for rough blanks on the jig, one for bases, one for lids. Once the lids are milled on the bottom, they are flipped into a pocket which registers them for the mill on the top. There are two different styles of lid, oval and scalloped so I have two pockets.

David, Beautiful work/design! Like the friction/vac assist! Is that AllStar Adhesives cover gasket? What finish are you using?
    NICE free wood!!
What are people using that size/shape for? Just curious.--nice enough to just sit there and look good

As designed, they are salt boxes. The originals had a sort of ying yang pattern and were two inches deep. These are 1 inch overall at the base and have a single space or the original pattern. As to what you can put in them, I suppose if its not too big, whatever you want. My Mom keeps her hearing aids in hers.

Magnets are from K&J magnetics and are .375 by .1 deep. Just have to pay attention to the polarity as you install.

    Scott,

Sorry, I realized I had skipped your questions.

It is a scrap slab of UHMW I picked up at a local plastics supplier conveniently located down the street from my favorite lumber yard. It is Allstar gasket.

The finish is mineral oil. Its food safe and easily refreshed by the user if desired. I have a bucket and they get dunked.

Thanks David, Probably going to experiment with .125" cover gasket AllStar gave me samples of at Camp just using MDF(cheap big box store stuff I'm trying to use up), before I make final fixtures out of more stable/permeable stuff.
Using 50/50 mineral oil/beeswax(and others) more and more here, as people seem to like the feel and it's so fast and convenient.
