    Default Christmas Gifts.

I have only done cabinets and custom cutting for other people with my bot. My children asked me to build them beds for Christmas. I spent 3 long days in the shop. The bed for my girl is all mdf. The bed for my boy is baltic birch plywood. This is my first post in 2 years. I am going to try to add the pictures. I work 60 to 80 hour per weeks but hope to have some more free time for fun projects in the new year.

I am taken by the design and finish of both beds. You obviously are a talented cabinet maker...joe

    Very cool! Nice work!

V carving the birch plywood... I am surprised I cant really see the plies at the V carved areas in your picture. Did you take extra care in staining it darker there to hide or nothing special? Also, that must be solid birch top caps? It looks great.

What finish technique, paint and primer did you use for the MDF bed?

    Designs and finishes are fantastic.

Not sure about this. After a discussion with my insurance agent there are two things you do NOT want to make to sell. Children's toys and children's furniture. The reason a $10 child's toy will cost you $60 these days is litigation/liability insurance.

BTY Really nice work. Love seeing those that put their love and heart into their giving to their children. Lucky kids for sure. Lucky parents too me thinks.

Thanks for the compliments. The mdf bed was painted with a brush and roller using Sherwin wilIams pro 200 semi gloss paint. The birch bed was finished with leftover water base stain and water base urethane top coat. Finish was applied with a kremlin 1014 system. The top caps are ply allso. I glued the caps up to get the width. The trick with the v carve and the built up areas is lots of sanding and sharp bits. In person you can see the plys of the wood, but it is done to look good with the design. I will try to add a picture showing the plys. I do not think we will be building furniture as a business. The beds took more effort than building 2 custom kitchens. We are a custom cabinet shop. In my past I have built everything from custom libraries to air craft instrument panels from wood stone and synthetic materials.
