    Default Importing Sketchup Make 2015

I have read many of the postz on importing Sketchup Files into Vcarve or Aspire, but its not working for me. If I try to "import vectors from file", I can see my Sketchup files, but I get an import error "Failed to import Sketchup File. I have tried several different files with the same error.

For importing models from Sketchup I'm having a little more luck, but still not there. The model does import along with the Zero Plane at the bottom of the model. Problem is I cannot set a tool path for just the model. I get the zero plane tool pathed as well. I have tried placing a boundry around the model, but this has not resolved the issue. I am using Aspire 4.5.

Has Sketchup Make 2015 changed something?

    Hey Ken,

There has indeed been a change to Sketchup. Here's some info on a workaround from the Vectric guys:

    Default Sketchup 15 Import

Thanks for the advice. I did find that if I save my file for an earlier version of Sketch up (think I used 8), the import of vectors worked perfectly. I will copy the patch that you gave me for a permanent solution.

I Have not yet figured out why I cannot set a tool path for just my imported model without tool pathing the zero plane unless this is still something that is also caused by the later revision of Sketchup.

Yes, there seems to be a import issue that developed when SKP 2015 was released.

If you back save to 2014 Vectric will import as expected.

    Default Sketchup 15 Import

Those of you who use Sketchup know this better than me, but once I realized that I had to save my file in an earlier version (14), the import worked great. I recreated the vacuum box that Gary Campbell designed months ago in Sketchup where I could have a 3D veiw of the box design. I was expecting to have to write down all my dimensions and then recreate the box in Aspire, but the import vectors from file did all the work - great stuff. I did find that dadoes do not translate well. Aspire separated the cabinet sides into rectangles at each dado. This was easy to correct and I am in awl with all the time the import feature saved me. I highly recommend Sketchup for cabinet/furniture design, especialy now that it can be imported into Vcarve Pro 7.5 or Aspire 4.5 nearly flawlessly.
