Hello forum, first post. Took receipt of SB Desktop a couple months ago at the high school I teach at. Have been having a lot of fun so far. It is a great addition to our 3d printers and Epilog Laser.
We also purchased the Indexer and Drag Knife accessories. I am interested in doing a pen project and a sticker project with my students. I need some help:
Any recommendations where to buy pen guts?
Where to buy pen blanks (I found various woods for $.50 a piece, is this good?)
How to do it? The video I watched on youtube didn't give any instruction but showed it being done. Didn't find much else out on my search. Many pen kit manufacturers weren't much help because they weren't sure about how it works with a SB.
Stickers:
What type of vinyl (or other material) would you recommend?
Any tips?
Kevin Welcome to the forum In the Shopbot control software under tools , indexer , This gives you a couple of options , If you do a profile you could make a baseball pen , you need to drill blank first with a 1/8" x 6" bit , then turn pen , by using the insides of a bic pen you , there are many ways to make pen files you could also make your file in V Carve Pro and use the wrapping gadget on You tube search make pen for .12 , PENN STATE .com is a good place for pen kits and parts ,, you will also need a mandrel to do kits
X2 on Penn State Industries for pen parts and supplies. You might also want to check out Packard Woodworks. (Their website stinks but paper catalog is good)

Thanks for the responses. For a new pen turner any recommendations on a starter set to get. I'm not exactly sure what I need and don't need. I ordered the free DVD from Penn State Ind. Hopefully that will help me get my terminology correct. Thanks.
