    Default beadboard doors

Has anyone tried to make a faux beadboard center panel cabinet door?
I usually make them like a traditional 5 piece door but they are getting painted and I don't want to worry about expansion and contraction with the paint since they are in a marina and will be exposed to high humidity.

    Thanks

Trouble is the v-groove used for cab doors runs under the stile and you would have to stop the v-groove short which would look pretty weird.
You could do it if instead of total shaker style you added a trim inside the frame. Another trick we did in one shop was use a 1/2" panel the full size of the door and v groove it and then overlay the frame in front out of more 1/2" stock and edgeband. 1" doors and a very nice look when painted. I always edgeband mdf doors with a square outer edge as it is so much easier to finish.

This door is a quarter sawn White Oak glue up panel, v-grooved with a cove.

    I don't blame you.
I grabbed one of my thermofoil catalogs and had a look. Their bead board panels have the bead stopping short-looks crummy.
Premanufactured 5 part doors paint grade with bead board plywood go for around 12/sq ft or so (Soft maple). Frame only 7-9. I stopped making all but the most custom a long time ago.
It just isn't cost efficient, although it is fun once in a while.

They sure don't. The angled inside rail to match the bottom v makes it work.

    Sam,

That really worked out nice on the PVC! I have weather issues up here (mostly snow and rain) so I may consider using PVC for the openings on my new shop. Wish I had a bigger machine though...
