    Default Unusual project

Recently a woman asked me if I could shape a "stone" for a ring. She had been traveling in Scotland and found someone who had made jewelry from heather. The heather was dyed and held together with epoxy. She had a ring to mount the "stone" in. I was able to model a shape for the "stone" in Aspire. I cut a sample in maple first and then the heather "stone".

    Neat Phil!
Did you hold material with carpet tape?
Wish all "stones" were the hardness of epoxy
    Good job!

That is cool, Phil! I am in process of designing some jewelry items myself...but, I had not thought of the heather "stone". I did watch a "How It's Made" program that showed how they make the heather/epoxy "stone" and was intrigued by it. Forgot all about that until your post.

Not all projects have to be BIG to be impressive! Very cool

Nice, what did you use to buff it out after machining?

Scott, I added two wood strips to the edges with glue for clamping and I also used carpet tape so I could cut all the way through the material.
