    Default Saw Mill

Last week My family lost the battle with the State over the Families old Water powered saw Mill. The new road will take it. This weekend we all got together to saw the last logs that the mill will saw. After A fun day of sawing logs, I took the saw blade off. (Actually four of us took the blade off and loaded them into my pickup truck) I plan on having a table made out of one of the two old blades (52" blades) and one of the chop saw blade (28") The the other saw blade I plan on having a scene painted on it or Have a vinyl scene put on it. Both will be Displayed and used at the new shop and Class Room. I will post pictures of the table, However to see the other blade with the scene on it you will have to wait till after the first class is held or attend the class. After the wood dries, I will be carving all of the family a sign like the one that used to hang next to the mill.

The old water powered was not built for ease of operation. logs are hand rolled onto the carrier and hand clamped to run through the saw. However, The power was free. My father and his brothers spent a lot of money trying to get it saved, as a historical site. The state did not want to have to re-route the road. ( would have added about 7 more miles to the road and several bridges. This saw mill dated back to prior to the civil war. In the old tunnel part there was a place they would hide slaves that were going north. when the water was stopped you could not get to the large carved room but with the saw running you could get to the room.

It sounds like a shame to have lost that piece of history. Do you have any pictures or video of the mill in service?
