Default A projector, swivel knife & Bandsaw

Back in the summer of 1982 I was asked to help with a Letterhead event to be held in Moore, Okla. This was my first exposure to this movement so I wasn't all that excited about going. After all I didn't know many sign fellows and those I did come across weren't exactly the most savory. Any way it didn't take long before I caught the fever. There some of the nations best artists attending and they were all ready to assist anyone to learn the tricks of the trade.

Being charged up, two weeks later I entered the trade with my first dimensional sign. At that time I didn't have any equipment to speak of. I had to borrow an overhead projector and a few wood clamps. Although the price of lettering brushes were all that expensive, I had to scrape up the money for a half dozen quill.

I drove by the Paxton office in OKC but they had long gone out of business. Sure wish I had that old sign in my office.

Good for you Gene. Didn't know you were a sign guy. Feel free to post some of your work.

I am sure you saw some of these on the 3d sign forum. The entrance sign for our signshop and 3d shop (and a couple renters) and a couple
of others- and the 8' replica of the city's (supposedly rare) watertower which is just about finished. Combinations of cnc and hand carved work
by my partner Wayne. I handle the digital end and Wayne the artistic. The dome on the OSC sign is wrapped with a vinyl print BTW.

    Gene,

Great stuff. Please tell us more about Wayne. We need more creative fellows.

He went to the Hayward School of Dimensional Signage three years ago and he and I went to Dan's 3D Indiana workshop 2 years ago (with Grampa Dan, Peter Poanessa, Sandy Baird and Jamie/Jody Oxenham as instructors). He does stained glass as well as fused glass and sandblasted and hand carved signs. We try to use the CNC (and have a 150w laser
ordered) for what it does best and combine with craftsmanship for nice
    signage.

    Great pix.

Do you guys have more showing commercial, business installations. I understand we have fewer commercial, pro's posting and would like to acquaint newbies with the that end of sign making. Although Nik-Nak's signs are fun and amusing it would be difficult to fund a full fledged business on them.

Sure would be nice to see a few snaps of Sign Store Fronts.
