    Default Problems with diagonal movement

After upgrading the controller on my Shopbot PRS, I started putting it thru its paces. What I noticed is that there are no problems when moving in the X, Y, or Z directions. However when moving diagonally or in an arc, there is a “growling” sound and a slight vibration. I have checked to make sure that there is norubbing of the metal parts and that all of the wheels on the guide rails are movingproperly.

    When cutting air:
    Moving at1.75 to 2.5 inches/second I have tried both Shopbot (arcs)(inch) (*.sbp) and Shopbot(arcs)(inch) w/ speed (*.sbp)

Thanks Jerry. I tried cutting at 4.5ips and it definitely made a difference.

Any idea what is the root problem is? Do you think it will damage anything if I cut at a slower speed?

    Thanks again,

    Bill

No. It's just mid-band resonance. All steppers do it at one speed or another.

    Thanks Brady

I'm not going to pretend to know what a mid-band resonance is, but I appreciate your explanation and feel more confident to cut at slower speeds.

    Thanks,

resonance is the sound it makes. I have had a similar issue when i was cutting circles when both axis' wqere moving at the same time it seemed as though when it was going around part of the curve it would slow down greatly then speed up.
