Default make a stencil using the drag knife

Would like to make my own stencil for paint decor on a new piece of furniture, as opposed to making due with something off the shelf. Client has a specific pattern in tile for backsplash, so it would be ideal to photo, trace and scale to suit the project.

    Looking for guidance:
    - Have the Donek drag knife - seems the logical tool to reach for to execute Victorian style flourishes, right?
    - What material to cut from and have a reasonably durable stencil? Some sort of plastic obviously, but seeking thickness and resource recommendations.

    Thanks!

I believe most people cutting stencils are doing so in lexan. If my recollection is correct, it is the 0.02in to 0.03in thickness range.
