Default Best RPM feed speed and bit to cut white pine

    Hello all

I bought my shop bot three weeks ago and so far so good.
I've cut couple things and learned a little bit about the V-Carve(this forum has been a great help for me).
Now is time to start my first real project, to do this so I would like to make sure that I am running the machine on its best.
On my projects I intend to use white pine most the time.
To cut the pine I am using the Onsrud 1/4 straight up spiral with double flute on it with 15000 RPM, 1.9" per min. and 0.25" depth step.

Would some one have a better suggestion for me?

    I would appreciate any help

    Thank you in advance

For pine, 1.9 is kind of slow, I'd cut it at 3, if you do .25 per pass, it shouldn't be a problem. Even though a downcut endmill can cause the kerf to clog with chips, I like it because it tends to help keep the material from lifting.

With my PC router, I usually run it at 19,000 rpm for pine and hardwoods.

I usually run 16000 with PC router on pine and oak, faster rpm seems to make more noise than any extra gain in move speed would be worth.

Renato, you can use the chip load calculator that that you'll find in the ShopBot Console, on the menu bar, under Tools/Chip Load Calculator, to set up your feeds/speeds.

Additionally, Onsrud has detailed information about chip loads for various materials, at https://www.onsrud.com/xdoc/FeedSpeeds , for their bits. From their chip load reccomendations you can either manually calculate feeds/speeds or use the chipload calculator in the ShopBot console.

And, you can find a discussion about feeds/speeds and Onsrud bits on the Shopbot forum at:
