I would like to use my computer to draw in Vcarve at the same time the shopbot is running a program off the computer. I know that this is not recommended but I am wondering if it can be done… thanks

no no no no
In case you didn’t understand what Jerry said…
NO!
Any time your computer is interrupted to do another task besides sending code to the bot, you run the risk of losing connection with the bot… The bot will either stop or continue moving the same direction as it’s last command until it hits hard stops. Not pretty!

Even the high end cnc's with a dedicated card can screw up I know as I ran a Biesse and that would happen every now and then
"Not pretty!" actually it is pretty, it's pretty LOUD! I just don't like hitting the machine stops at speed! It just isn't worth the risk! So to echo the others, NO, NO, NO. Russ

Okay... thanks... .... looks like I will just be setting up a second computer next to the shopbot...
yes two computers. your drawing and vcarve crashes who knows? Plus you may have too much on the shopbot computer anyway it should be kept really simple.
You really only need a very basic computer to run the Shopbot I have a refurbished HP with windows 7 and not much in the way of a processor and never had a problem. I did have problems trying to run it from Dell computers. I tried 6 different Dells and they all gave me com errors. I had 2 HPs and one took a lighting strike so that is why I got the second one.
If you get a Dropbox account you don't even need to move the machine files to the other computer, they pop up automatically. It is free and more reliable than a home network setup. That said, the Shopbot computer will need an Internet connection.
Couldn't do it if you wanted to, the mouse is trapped.
