K, I'm going to give this a try today. Elmer's Rubber cement recommended? Apply on the boards, wait for to dry, carve, paint peel?

Nick,
I usually pour the RC on directly. Then spread it out with a squeegee. Your better off being sloppy. No need to wait a long time for it to dry. Ten minutes is usually sufficient. Perhaps the most important step is to lay down of the Transfer Tape. It has to be done in a single motion. Can't be picked up or moved. Then, with a stiff bristle brush, like a kitchen scrub brush, burnish it down well. Don't be gentle.

Got it. Thankfully I have plenty of transfer tape from my vinyl sign background. I'll give this a go. Here is a pic of this particular sign painted.
Nice Job of the sign. Let us know how you make out with the Dr. Crumley's Rootin Tootin method.
Re: "Dr. C's Rootin Tootin Mask", I did a search and read a few items but does anyone have an pics or step by step they'd like to share for us noobs. I actually am about to carve a sign where this would be 1000000% beneficial if done properly. Thanks in advance.

Wes,
I'll be starting a small decorative ranch sign this coming week and I'm planning on using the Snake Oil mask for the gilding. For me this is the cleanest and easiest method to keep the gold off the background while getting a smooth clean edge. Perhaps I should do this demo in a step by step method in real time. This technique is so simple I'm almost embarrassed to show it. O well no one else is going to do it.
