    Default Wainscoting on a stairway?

I have done wainscoting on a straight flat wall but may need to do it on a stairwell and i've never done that. Is there anything magical about calculating the angle to make it right?
Estetically it looks like the the squares are longer then taller are better and no type of design in the center and nothing between the panels like my half round fluted pilasters but i'd like to have them without having to distort anything.
