Exclamation Desktop Max Proximity issues?? - Already tried circuit and control board

Below is the sequence of events and symptoms in chronological order.

Accidentally ran our desktopmax with the zero clip hooked to the spindle which took the wire out of the plug connector.

We reconnected the spindle wire, or so we thought, it was not fully connected.

    Went to rezero the bit.

The bit came down and instead of touching off on the plate like normal it repeatedly hit the zero plate, we had to hit the Estop.

We hooked the wire up for the zero then correctly.

We zero'd the unit and then resumed cutting.

Within a few seconds of resuming the desktop max would not proceed in the X axis and made grinding sounds. We hit eStop.

The unit would only run normally then for a minute or two then start "grinding" in all axis's.

Then we got a hold of John in tech support. Troubleshot for 1 hour. Diagnosis was we needed a new circuit and control board.

We got the new boards the next day we installed the boards.

After installation the gantry would not move in XYZ, but the readout on shopbot software on the control panel indicated movement, but physically was not moving.

Then after the machine sat at rest for 30ish minutes the gantry would move with terrible grinding noise.

We rebooted everything, re zero everything.

We start to run a simple cut and get a horrible grinding sound in every axis. The problem seems to be initiated in the x axis.

Also of note: After shutting the machine down from an event while resting the machine makes little noises that seem abnormal to us (we have been running for 6 months we have not heard these noises before).

Please help, or production is halted and we are loosing money each minute the machine is down. We are a small business so this is really painful. Much appreciated in advance for any help.

Just guessing, but I hate to see a machine down.
Sounds like a loose/intermittent connection/wire, and I'd put in a call to Tech as someone is usually on call.
But, before that, Power down Everything, and pull the plugs/breaker and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Power up and try a UR....then maybe read UT and do a Packet ET test for comms.

Maybe watch Andrew's vid on replacing control board, and see if you did anything differently?

It may not be exact, but should be similar.

I get that grinding noise in X if I'm rushing things as computer first boots up, and I do a C3 while the computer is doing startup things, but that goes away in a minute.

Going to be a pain isolating it though.
    Hope you get sorted soon.

Oh, On our 2 Desktops, we never once had the clip on the spindle/collet/bit....we put it on one of the the leveling legs, and it's lived there ever since.
Test and see if you can do the same?
So long as when you touch the Z plate to the bit EVERY time you Z-Zero, and get a green light on Input one...you're good to go.

Thanks for replying to us on a Sat, much appreciated.

We are new to some of the lingo, could you define:
    UR
    UT
    Packet ET

Roger on your take time booting up comments, that may have solved the issue. We are doing a few production runs now.

    Again, many thanks.

If you change the circuit board you will have to reload your firmware

    Thanks Jerry...forgot about Firmware install
In Command Line....for Firmware Install...type UI and follow the prompts.
UR in command line reinstalls factory settings for your machine....good time to measure Z-Plate thickness and make sure it's accurate...follow the prompts and make sure you click "I have Z-Prox" as it's a better Z-Zero routine for dust foot etc.

UT brings up a .pdf explaining the UD info, after reading pdf.... Enter a move such as MX,4...and then doing nothing else....type UD, and check the Packet ET.
Should be less than 20, but have seen people with up to 25 run with no problems....
