    Are most of the engines steam or electric?

    Tim, the hobby is pretty evenly divided. 1/3 steam, 1/3 gasoline, and 1/3 battery / electric. Of the steamers about 75% propane, 15% coal, and 10% oil burners. The majority of the coal burners are east coasters with propane being wide spread in wildfire west. The battery folks are the fastest growing part of the hobby based primarily on wheelchair technology. Low cost heavy duty motors, controllers and deep cycle batteries. Our biggest issue regarding the park is providing charging areas for them. Our International event next year is expected to draw some 450 trains with 150 being battery. We currently can charge about 90 or so. We have some work to do this winter. Russ
