Excellent job. You have chosen a couple of my favorite substrate materials. Both will last a long time.
Did you mask the Bear Ranch for painting?

I did. A bright purple color vinyl mask was used. The customer gave me free reign on finishing it and colors. I sent the guy a picture after I carved it before painting and asked him did he like the color. He actually did to my surprise!

I think this is even better!
With Yellow Pine it's best to capture the natural tannins with Block-Out white or Kills. Without one of these there's going to be some rather ugly brown stains seeping through.
