First one I made was a test, as step-mom said she collected owls recently, but came out so good I finished it for her...Thread was "Putzing with small branches" and no interest.
Lot more info her at Vectric Forum;
But she just got it, and said "LOVING" it was an understatement
I kinda liked the little guy myself, and had another similar Black Walnut branch I rescued from a shredder two and half years ago.
So when woke at midnight yesterday and couldn't sleep.....Jigged up MY piece, took measurements and changed model and cut.
First pic is hers, just before sister took it to Vermont.
The rest are from yesterday. I LIKE how MINE came out too!
JUST off the machine pics coming next.

Just awesome. Interesting how you find these interesting things inside a piece of wood. Guess it is sort like Michelangelo that knew David was inside a piece of marble, he just had to remove all the extra stuff hiding him.
Thanks all!
David This is the SyTool 3"LOA, 1.5CEL, .25mm Radius. Because it was for the House, I did the same 5% stepover as my Step-Mom's...so a couple hours with a 3D Raster to find good wood and get the bark curve right, making a couple passes at a time, and then MN'ing down for a grand total of .55" for the TBN to start the .02" machining allowance cut.
Used Drillman1"s new Longer CEL .125 downcut(1.5,1.5,35% step .05"pass at 15.5K), until the hole at the feet was pretty much done(45%?) 2 hours?...
Then started the Finish toolpath at 11 am, and cut 1,1,16K as it worked so well with the first one....8:46:30 (?)
Take a look at the thread link at the beginning of this one;
Bought the first TINY set because Randall liked them...a LOT leery of Chinese, but trust Randall...GLAD I did.
First set worked a charm for my small stuff, so with second order(I drop stuff ) I bought a 3" .25"shank .25mmR one to see if they cut as good as the tiny ones...they do
So ordered 6 varied tips, but mainly the tiniest.
Yeah Brian....first time I super-sized a model to fit a branch, and seem to have lucked out both times(First time was the best though)...Nervous as heck that the Model wouldn't "fall off"
the curve of the actual branch right. PSL and a LOT of measuring and guestimating!!
Been surfacing some branches and firewood for this little European Squirrel guy since 4am!
Still figuring placement in 3 pieces of wood....not sure so prepping all.

Dave....THIS one's for the House! But POSSIBLY sending my Step-Mom the Vectric link led to a NICE Christmas check for my spindle jar!
I don't work for filthy lucre, BUT if I make a set of 36 Bespoke carved four sides Children's Blocks as a gift for a friend's 1 yr old....and they give me a little piece of official paper with a # and some Zeros in it...I ain't averse to buying some wood and tools
