    Default E-Chain for ShopBot

Anyone willing to share their sources, p/n’s, and any other pertinent information on what I need to install both X and Y E-Chain on my PRT 4896 please.

There are so many choices and variations on the IGUS website - I have a headache trying to determine exactly what I need. Thanks for any information.

    Thanks, Pete

Given the expense of e-chain, you might find out what is available at any local electronic surplus stores. I was fortunate enough to buy all I needed for my PRT96 with some left over for $30. At about 3/4" x 2", it was a little crowded, but it has worked fine for years. Last year I actually saw enough to do the job at another store near me in Hillsboro that was more like 1" x 3" for only $50, but I was too lazy to change to the larger size.

Donn, I live in Vancouver, just across the river from you. I have been looking for an E-Chain for my machine. What store did you see the used E-Chain in Hillsboro?

You can always make your own.

One a guy cut on his Joe's CNC 4x4 Hybrid, he modified the files that are available also on CNCZone.

Peter - I have a PRTalpha 48x96 machine. I bought 10 feet of the IGUS part #250-05-075 energy chain and (2) of the part #2050-34PZB bracket pivot. The bracket pivets come 2 to a pack, so that will give you 4 pieces total. The -075 part of the number above designates the minimum radius that the chain will bend. The -075 is a 2.95 inch radius, so the top mount must be at least 6 inches higher than the bottom mount. It is always best to use the maximum radius that will fit within your setup. The larger the radius of the chain, the longer that your cables will last. In my setup, I needed the -075 size for my Y axis setup. I could have went another size up for the X. I bought directly from IGUS, total cost was $164 not including shipping. The 10 feet was enough to do both the X and Y. Everything worked out exactly the way I wanted it to. I just used plywood to support the E-chain.

    Brad, et al

Thanks very much for the replies. I will check out the IGUS products.

I would like to also try to make my own if anyone has a link to the plans on CNC Zone - I searched but was unable to find any plans.

Hi David...The store is Gizmo's at Hwy 26 and Cornelius Pass Rd. Kind of a replacement of Wacky Willie's.

    Good luck!
