Background texturing

I am new to Shopbot and new to the forum. I am trying to do a background texture in partworks. I am having a problem with it texturing over my lettering. I have an interior and exterior oval with text inbetween. I want to pocket the area between the ovals leaving raisd lettering and put the background texture where the smooth parts of the pocket are. I am missing something because the texture just cuts the entire area between the ovals not seeing the lettering.
What am I missing? Thanks for any help
