    Default HSD versus Columbo

We have an application where we're considering a new Shopbot. We'll be cutting hardwoods, cutting many parts from 7/8" solid stock. Which spindle would you recomend? Why?

    Louis...
We cut hardwoods often with a 4 hp HSD. It is more than adequate for our needs. That being said, if you are going to use profiling bits, especially tall or larger diameter than 3/4" I would go for more HP.

I have not seen a woodworking machine yet that didnt benefit from more horsepower. Both the HSD and Colombo are good robust tools. Buy the most horsepower that you can afford.

The horsepower rating on the spindles should be fairly consistant. Much more consistant than the HP rating between routers and spindles.
