Default Half table for 3 axis, half for 5 axis?

Is it a crazy idea to use half of a prs alpha 96x48, for 2d work and taking out the cross members on the other half and using it for 5 axis 3d work?
Would there be problems in zeroing the tool and setting the table limits anytime I want to use it in the second half of the table with all 5 axis?
Basically I want to take out one cross member, and move the others to be spaced evenly under the mdf table base at the front end, 4'x4'.

Am I crazy? How does everyone else use and set up for their 5 axis?

    Thanks.

I think you mean 4th axis, like a rotary indexer or lathe, correct? If so, not it is not a crazy idea. Many have done this. Go for it!
