Default Keyboard Control - Vista Issues ?

    Good Evening,

Picked up a computer with Vista as the operating system.

Some issues I've had so far:

1.) Shopbot Setup Tool does not work. It complains about a system mismatch error code 13

2.) My keyboard control is hosed. X and Y do not work reliably. Z seems to work fine
At one point my Y axis went in only one direction, regardless of whether I pressed up or down.

Are these vista issues, or some configuration problem ??

I haven't heard anything good about vista. That is why i usually wait 2 or 3 revisions to upgrade due to all the bugs and problems with microsoft products. I'd consider going back to xp.

I do not use Vista on my SB control system, but Vista is on all my other systems. Make sure you have SP1 installed and everything is up to date.

Turn off the User Access Control

Disable DEP for the SB control software.

You should be able to google those keywords if you're not sure how to do that.

Thanks for the ideas. Well here is what I found out..

I had already disabled the User Access Control. Wow how annoying is that feature.

But that seemed to be the crux of my problem. When that was disabled, none of keyboard commands were working. I re-enabled it this morning and now it is working fine.

    weird stuff.

p.s. I didn't want vista either. Its damn near impossible to buy a computer with XP these days, and if you do they charge extra for it.

some computers can still be upgraded to XP.. the best thing to do is do a google search on the make and model for downgrading. It will usually tell you whether someone else has already had success. I just bought a Toshiba laptop with vista.. lasted 2 days before I changed it to Vista..

I never tried Vista and do not care too because of half the things it will not do.
You can at anytime remove Vista from any computer and install another operating system, need help doing it let me know and I will walk you thru it.

You also can still buy hp refurbished computers with XP pro on it from Microcenter.com. I got one to run my bot and works great as XP is all that is loaded not a bunch of Bloat ware or trial versions of software.

FYI...There are new notebooks that are either very difficult or impossible to install XP on. There are often no drivers available for XP unless you download generics from hardware component sites and have a live-in geek to help you get them installed. And, in some cases, just none available period. So, before you purchase a notebook with the idea of installing XP, do your homework and be sure you can get the necessary drivers.

Being in the business, I have gone through this many times with varying degrees of success.
