    Default Machining round parts question?

I machine some 4" round parts from 1.25" UHMW I am having a problem with the bit exiting after the cut and leaving a cut line in the edge. The cuts are toolpathed with a ramp going in.

I am using a 3/8" O flute bit by Onsrud made for plastic and I plunge with a 1" ramp at .03" sec and that seems to do fine it takes 3 trips around the part to leave a .050" skin all is well until the bits stops and retracts from the work and leaves a straight line as it exits. Is there a way to have it exit in a ramping motion instead of just pulling straight up?

The line is not deep but it makes the part look bad. It would be really nice if I could get the bit to jog a few thousandths away from the part and then exit.

You could add the jog move you want by using the editor. scroll down to the bottom of the file and add a J2 move then save the file

If you're using PartWorks, check the box for "add leads" on the leads tab (left of the ramping tab) and make sure the "do lead out" box is checked.

You can use either straight or circular leads.

This will move the beginning and ending points for the cut away from your part, so that the mark that you're seeing is left in the scrap instead of the finished part.

Thank you for the info. I will give the lead-in lead-out a try. I have to be careful I was playing with it and because I have other parts bordering the other parts I am wondering if a .010 lead in & out will be enough I will just have to give it a try and see. I am using Partworks.
