Andre... very nice. What was the carve time? I'm designing something with a similar idea, a ceiling fan medallion. I'm still waiting for my Aspire DVD to arrive but it's the first carving project on my agenda. My wife wants a custom medallion for each celing fan.

There was approximatly 6 hours of machining. Keep in mind the size and intricacy and the fact that I used 4-5 different bits. The outer squares took about 1 hour.
Is that Poplar? What is the finish? I like how it looks brown in one pic and a redish color in another or are they different ones? The closeup looks like oak? Very nice.

oops, i guess i just missed that part. I guess it's time to get the glasses perscription updated. The unfinished picture (first one) looked like the green you see in poplar.

Yes Jack it is good old plain red oak. Glued up leftovers of 1"x1 1/2 "
I stained it with woodsong cinnamin ( did I spell that right?)clear coat laquer
