Pouring foam into a mould?

I have been thinking about making some things like ceiling medallions and other applied designs but rather than cut each one out on the bot I thought of making some type of mould and making the positive out of some type of pourable foam because you want something lightweight to stick to the ceiling rather than some heavy plaster object.
Is anyone doing anything like this? Where would be the best place to start to learn what is the best material for the moulds and for the foam? Is there a specific forum or place to gather more information?

Bill Lebeda-I happen to be going back thru some flikr pages and saw your "GreenMan" and some of your molds that you poured glass into?
Can you give me some more information on the type of material you used for molds and the "glass" you poured and how it turned out?

it can be good practice to just go to a hobby lobby and get materials however in the long run the tapp blue was worth the money, and the smmoth on makes a stainable product that is superb, take a look at the industrial section
