    Default Input on relief/carving...

I have a potential client who is looking to get cut many of the attached photo (link at bottom). One of the issues we are facing is that the existing piece can not be removed for scanning. So with that being mentioned I was curious if anyone had any ideas on how we could create a file efficiently as well as produce them efficiently?

My thought was this... get a better higher quality photo and use the trace BMP feature in part works to create a relief drawing. Cut the pockets and knockdown the high spots with a sander?

I really think an actual carving this size will take too long and seeing as how there is 7 different scenes and a couple of each scene....

    Any thoughts are appreciated

I think your best bet is what you mentioned - a high-res picture. Another option might be to do a pencil rub and scan that in to a computer and work with that.

If you are not familiar with a pencil rub it is how we get images from things like grave stones. Put a piece of paper over the image and use a pencil to rub lightly and get the picture on the paper. Works great.

    Ron...
I am with Gene on this one. Take a group of hi res pics of each one. Include a straight on with and without flash. Have 1 of each include a scale or object of known size. Set straight on pics, on tripod, using mirror trick.

    Send to James (Vectorart3D).
