Default Monitor goes black with monitor logo popping up

On an intermittent basis, sometimes before running a file and sometimes during the running of a file, the monitor screen goes black and the monitor logo pops up. This has been an intermittent problem after the machine sat idle for several weeks. When the screen goes black while a file is running, the file keeps running so I'm thinking it may be something in my hard drive. Any opinions about what could be causing this are welcome!

Check the power savings setting on monitor, should be set to "Never sleep". Pretty much ALL power saving setting should be turned off Randy. May be something else , but that's what it sounds like.

I'm having at your suggestion now, Scott. It's such an intermittent condition it may take running a few files to know......but I did find a fix in a help section that claimed, "fixed" after I implemented it.....we'll see. Thanks for the input!

Randy, when starting a file note the time. If it seems to happen at the same elapsed time-Then that's probably what it is. If not then I'm stumped(not hard to do And you'll have to wait for the "Wise Ones" (Incense and Invoking their names does NOT appear to help) Good luck.

    Randy,

If the Monitor logo is coming up on the screen, it is losing the signal from the computer. The first thing I would check is that the cables are fastened tightly at the monitor and the computer.

what jay said, and check that your drivers are all up to date. If you changed anything all, even a new thumb drive can cause driver conflicts. My USB ports were going wonky for weeks and I couldn't figure out why, updated all my drivers and everything was fine.
