Inlay Logo in Vinyl Tile?

Just got a call to cut a logo and name into 16x16 vinyl floor tiles about 10' long. Anyone ever tried this? I would think a bit would heat up and stick with the adhesive backing. Drag knive? .125 thick is the material. Would the vinyl-mate stand up to it? Is it similar to blasting mask, or should we look to a different material choice. Any suggestions would be gladly welcomed. Thanks,Dan

aspire and vcarve pro both have excellent inlay tool paths in the latest upgrade, i did an inlay with laminate and it came out perfect! i would not hesitate to use vinyl.

If it is commercial tile it shouldn't have an adhesive on it. Adhesive gets put down on the floor then the tile set. I wouldn't think there would be much of a problem using the Shopbot to route into the tile.

The hardest thing would be holding it down. Looks like you'll have to build a vac jig or use carpet tape if there is no glue on the back of them already. Good excuse to build a vac set up if ypu don't alrea5y have one

Wow, good ideas guys. That's what I love about this forum. I will defintely know today if it adhesive backed or not. If it is, new rules I guess. Jim, that laminate looks great. Great job. Right now I don't have V-carve or Aspire so it's gonna be fun as I have not done an inlay yet. Would you be interested in making the tool paths? E-mail me if so. Thanks again for your help guys. Dan

What type of bit should be used to cut commercial vinyl squares if I was to try inlaying them?

i would use a single flute "o" 1/8" dimeter
