Default home made dust shoe failure

Sorry to bring this subject back up. I tried making my own dust shoe for a Shopbot Buddy. See attached file/image below. Problem I had is the suction forced the vinyl sheeting upwards, off the table and it covered part of the dust hose opening and dust collection suffered. Before I go to another design, can someone help with why?

Replace the vinyl with some brush material McMaster Carr sells it by the foot in many configurations. The brushes seem to work best for this application.

I get mine here,, I like the Nylon (found horse hair too stiff) make sure you match holder to brush Example 1/8 th to the 1/8th

they also have one piece and in different lengths

Angelo like you we messed with making our own but ended up going with the flow and getting the Kent. He has done all the hard yards like the way he uses a double row of bristles to solve the problem you have mentioned. Its also darn handy to be able to see down through the perspex top whilst cutting but more importantly to remove it easily doing a Z or tool changing. If you do a search of this forum youll find only praise for the Kent and Shopbot have sort of adapted it to the Desktop.

I will measure mine and let you know. My dust foot was built by Gary Campbell and when the bristles wore out I replaced it with a longer bristles but it did not work good because it was too long and the vacuum pressure curled it under. I ended up cutting the bristles off to about the size it was when Gary originally made it.
