I need a bigger dog house.

I just recently became a member of the Beta Fabricator Network for Physical Design Co. and have been asked to cut several of their designs.

The first was this Dog House. It cuts out of 4 sheets of material I used cheap CDX ply for this one.

And knocked it out in a few hours. We were going to assemle this Saturday but ran out of time.

Enjoy the pics.

And if anyone is interested in becomeing a member of Physical Design Co. you can go here and sign up.

Angus,
I know your frustration but go here:
http://xat.com/jpegopt/index.html and download jpeg optimizer. It will allow you to reduce the kilobyte size of a picture without reducing the deminsions and bring your full size picture of 640x480 down to below 50k for this forum.

That took 4 sheets?

I'll bet it's nice and sturdy.
If you have Windows XP go to Microsoft's Power Toys page. They have an easy to use Image Resizer for free.

Neville it was originally 5 when I first got it. Then I had some help getting it nested down to 4 from Robert Bridges.
The next one not sure which, I think is the play house is supposed to take around 29 sheets.

Thanks fro the tip Phil and yea its strong I going to do some strength testing on it later in the week maybe by then I'll figure out how to make the picture gods happy.

Is that a dog house or a bomb shelter?

Angus,

I have been following the construction method for a long time and have been looking for some sample files. Talk about good timing on your part. I will definitely check out "Physical Design" right away!

Thanks!

Micheal they are still in Beta testing and are only releasing .SBP files at the moment but Yes sign up and when they go live you will automatically become a member.

Thats cool. I built a doghouse that is 8 x 12 with hot water , a tub and a/c . my neighbors thought i was crazy . Now being in the doghouse aint all that bad.

With all due respect, that seems WAY over engineered. Although its cool and if the object of the exercise was to engineer something from scratch you could use the same plans expanded to build a house (hey didn't they do that with the MOMA house?).
But based on the picture with you in it I have a feeling i know who is going to be spending more time in it therefore the better engineering! Good job.

If I could make a suggestion for an easier to build, less material intensive design... My high school wood shop students have built a fair number of doghouses. The design used one sheet of half inch plywood. I don't have the dimensions handy, I'm retired now. We laid out the sheet to get maximum use of the sheet and make the two roof parts, front, back, sides and bottom. We butted the corners together but for a CNC project we could have used long box joints at all of the intersections similar to the corners on your doghouse. All of the interior framework is not necessary.

I had nothing to do with the engineering on these projects.

I was simply sent .SBP files a told cut these take pictures and make sure it all fits together.

The suggestion was made that since my dog won't fit I could fill the ribs with expanding foam hinge the lid and have a really cool beer kooler.

You know, that thing on the ramps is nicer than the car I'm driving... Probably worth more, too.

erik_f

Yeah, but can the thing on the ramp drive itself?

No, but neither can my car.
(heck, it can't even charge it's own battery right now...)

Some people really get carried away over their doghouses...

I *love* the doggie bone balusters! Not everybody can successfully combine tasteful design and whimsy.

Angus what type of dog is that? It looks sort of like a Great White Pyrenees that had been shaved

angus_hines

My daughter has 2 of them the female has ADD I think because she goes from one thing to another. The Male is very protective and you don't want to raise your voice to my daughter he will snap at you. They are fun to play with though.
