Wasn't there a post about the new Shopbot models or upgraded model coming out in Feb? I'm going to order a new machine, but at this point I'm going to hang in there if there's a major upgrade coming and wait. I could use the tax deduction, but a new improved model is worth the wait.

I spoke to Chris Burns @ Shopbot yesterday and he said that there is an upgraded bot due out in early '07. I don't remember if he mentioned a specific date. All he said is that there is a new gantry. I'm sure he would be glad to fill you in on the details.

You might check with your accountant to see if you can get the deduction by placing the order prior to years end regardless of when you recieve it. You may have to send them a deposit or pay for it before years end, not sure but that might be one way to get the deduction.

I've been kinda quiet about this topic, but I'm in the camp of valuing smoothness and accuracy over speed. I just got my alpha this summer, and I'd be bummed out if the improvements were excluded from existing machines. So far it looks good for us.

And all this time, I thought that these secret drawings were going to be the model for the new machine:
