Freehand 3D Carving in Green Applewood

This 3D carving is part of a larger project that was done entirely freehand using 5-axis motion with tool changer and dynamically variable feedrates.

Would you be willing to sell the 3D file of this project? Frankly James Booth doesn't hold a candle to you with the artistic skill displayed in the quality of this project.
I would pay top dollar for that...it might look good to go along with the bridge i just bought.

Okay, now I see it. At first I thought perhaps a picture was missing from the post. Now after looking at it again I can see the expertise and artistic ability of this carving. It's so good it almost looks better than if it were real. I am retired and being 67 my eyes just are not what they used to be.

Neal what you failed to see upon first viewing is the use of lighting and shading upon the subject matter which brought out the stunning SARCASM on display.

I don't have any applewood here in North Carolina. Can I substitute other woods or does it have to be applewood?

I have used this on maple as well. The dynamic feed rate controller automatically adjusted for the different material.

You're timing might be good. The heavy rains we just had softened the soil enough so some apple trees yet to be picked toppled over due to the weight of the apples. I still have what is left of an apple tree on my property toppled by the hurricanes of 5 years ago - but it is only used in the smoker!

The shop smelled like fresh baked apple pie!

When MASH was running, Hotlips and Frog faced hired a Korean artist to carve a bust of Col. Henry Potter.
Hotlips and Frog face didn't want to be taken so they asked for an example of his work.
The Korean artist produced it.
"Frogface said: "This looks like a 2 x 4!"
The artist said: "Thank you!"

I want to reproduce rocks. Anybody got any sarcasm to display???

How did you get it to look so realistic?
Did you use colored bits?
If so, where do you get colored bits?
I think ACE usta' carry them in the isle right next to the polk-a-dot paint, but that was years ago.
