long story short - well i'll try my best -
bought a 2nd hand board when mine went out for my 2001 prt.
the one i bought, i found out it had a 1/4 step driver for the z axis, and i don't have a 1/4 step motor.
so, a fellow botter told me of a place in huntington indiana that fixes boards.
so i sent the box ( the first one that went bad) to them and they say it is now working 100%.
cost for fix 350.00. and it has an extra board for an indexer that i can use one day in the future.

they said the problem was the board had short, so they replaced all the capasitors.

as you can now tell, i don't know squat about computers.
but i do know this - shopbot wanted 1500.00 plus my old board for an upgrade. and though this is a good deal, i don't have 1500.00.

so i think this was good deal.
when i get the unit back, they say wend. , i will post how it works.
someone else might need one fixed and i'll give the name and number when i see mine working.

thanks go to don (routnabout) for helping me.

got the unit back today.
seems to work fine.
the web site for them is:
http://emd-display.com/ (http://emd-display.com/)

try them out, it saved me spending 1500.00 that i don't have right now.

they said to send it back, it is under warranty.
i hope they take care of it and it is covered.
would this fall under the new healthcare plan?

well, my son sent the computer back, he decidied it needed to be sent by air. now there is no aiport in huntington, so it was air mailed about 100 miles from here.
cost - 72.00
next day ground to huntington, in. - about 18.00
the company will pay the 18.00 and i agreed to pay the difference.
my son pays nothing of course.
give him a break, he's only 30

anyone else got kids?

they tell me that the board is fine.
don - routnabout is trying it on his machine tomorrow.
now what do i do?
this is very frustrating to say the least.
i am lucky i don't have a job depending on this machine right now.

my wife just called me and the bot board is back.
i'll be hooking it up about 5:00 p m and will post results, i do know this, the board works fine on don's bot, so i am hoping for the best.
i would recommend emd repair shop listed above, but they are dry to talk to. good but dry.

got it hooked up and nothing.
checked all wires and hooked up again - nothing.

then i found the problem by sheer luck, the toggle switch on the monitor had been put on preview mode.
i clicked it to run mode and you guessed it, runs fine.

oh boy!

Funny how the lessons you buy and pay for you remember the most. I bet that one will never be repeated
