Here is a project we just finished. Two 30" Baseballs. The stitchwork was designed with Aspire and cut with our Bot. The sphere was cut on our hotwire machine. Then plastic coated. They will be part of a larger sign at the new Fort Wayne Stadium in Indiana.

Looks like you hit a homerun with those balls. Now i'd like to see the bat!

Glen,

Wow, those are really great. Great job and thanks for sharing.

It would be easy to make a joke but I am not going to.

It looks as if you just cut the stitching out and applied it to the round surface of the balls?
Did you have to cut it out in between each stitch?
I'd be interested in knowing how you glued the stitching and held it on to dry? It looks like it is regular balls with covers stitched on. Will it be painted?
Very cool!

I had to do some splicing. I pinned the stitches in place then I glued them on with foam contact cement. You get one shot at the placement, you miss and the part is junk, instant stick. The sign company we built them for will be doing the final painting.

Amazing work. If you don't mind me asking, what method did you use to figure out the shape of the stitching?

Great job. I live in Fort Wayne and it will be neat to see these up and know where they came from.

Glen,
you stated you used Aspire for the seams. did you draw the seams on a sphere in Aspire and then have Aspire unravel, if you will, the seams thus giving you the correct curves so they fit on the actual sphere. if so, i am interested in talking with you more about this. btw - beatutiful work!
thanks

Those look great. There is a bat leaning against the Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville that would be perfect.

I used a standard baseball to get the scale. Since it was 3 inches and the balls I built were 30 inches I increased the scale x10. I also cut paper strips to match the seams on my baseball. After getiing the scale close on paper I scaled it to Aspire. It came close. I wish I knew more about drawing in 3D CAD. I know this would have saved me quite a bit of time.
