My practice is to hit "new posts", then progress to what interests me. Up until a day or so ago, there was a little note to hit, something like "last post read" top left of post box which was especially handy on long threads just to take you to the first post you hadn't read. Not there anymore??? Can we have it back?

I would like to see the menus at the bottom for the threads so you don't have to go to the top, but just click new posts.

Thanks

Donn,

Under the "Quick Links" drop down on the blue menu bar there is an option to mark forums read. Is this the feature you are looking for?

Looks to me like that "View first unread" shows up only if a new post has been added to thread since the last time you opened/read that particular thread.

Consider setting the threads so that the newest appears at the top - User CP > Setting and Options > Edit Options > Thread display options > Linear Newest first. That way the menu bar is available.

Thanks for the replies.

By default, if I've begun my reading by clicking on "new posts", I'm reading only threads with new posts, so unless there is only one post there should be "view first unread".

If I set the newest to the top, then I still have to scroll down until I hit the first unread, if I can remember where I left off which is questionable.

It's only a small thing, but I used it every day and liked it. The new forum in general is great even without it and I miss the old one like a carbuncle on my....

Sounds right to me. That's the way I've been reading and the "view first unread" still shows up on my view. There's been no global changes to forum views that I know of so I'm at a loss to explain why it doesn't show up on yours but will keep the question in mind.

I have been thinking about re-spinning my search app to work with this new forum software. I like most of the features of the new forum over the old one, including the search features. Is there anybody else other than myself that found that form of search would still be nice? It would take me most of a day to change it, and it doesnt seem worth the effort in this case if I am the only one that would want it. Anybody interested? D

I hadn't noticed the icon before. Now that I've seen it and used it I'm addicted. :D Thanks for pointing it out!

Dana, I'm sure there are some tweaks that could improve the search capabilities of the new forum, but for my common usage, the "new posts" and "view first unread" could hardly be improved upon. On the other hand, build a better mousetrap...

in case i don't see it, maybve this can be changed. In the old forum you clicked on the member name and it pulled up their name, email address, business website and other info (if they filled it out) now all you can do to get in contact with someone is send a PM and i bet lots of you have PM's that you don't know you got because it is not too obvious.

Is there any way to get contact info other then with a PM?

went back and found the "info" tab but no contact info there..........

Jack,

Look in the upper right where it says Private Messages. Click on that. That will take you to the messages. Unread: those you have not read, Total : messages you have.

Jack,

Click on your name in the post and you will see a drop down that includes information that you choose to share including a (secure) link to your email and one to your web site if you have provided them in your User Control Panel (Usercp).
