Hello All -
Well, I will be picking up my new PRS Standard 48x48 tomorrow at the local freight terminal.
I've been monitoring the forum for a couple of months now and, about a month ago, finally made the decision to purchase a ShopBot. I considered a couple others but decided on the ShopBot for several reasons. One major factor in my decision was this excellent forum. You guys (& gals) are the most helpful bunch of folks I have ever run across on all of the forums I have been a part of over the years.
So, tomorrow, I start a new journey with my 'bot and, hopefully, have many pleasant years making "stuff" with it.
So, please be kind, while I ask all of the newbie questions as I familiarize myself with this new tool. I'm hoping in a few days I'll have it put together and squared up to try out a first test cut (I know - air cut first!!).

Welcome to the club Bill! :D
Woodworking will take a big change for you going forward. You will start trying to figure out ways to have the 'bot do what you used to do with your other tools. You will find new types of projects that make it easier with the 'bot. I know it changed the way I run my woodworking business. I now take on jobs that I was not comfortable taking on before. Just remember you still have other tools that are more suitable for certain tasks. Don't let them feel forgotten and abandoned after the many years of faithful service they have given you..

The first and best piece of advice would be to keep the emergency stop button glued to your palm for the first week.
We were all new at one time and we asked the same questions you will ask and a year from now you will be answering those questions for the next batch of newbies.http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
Ask all the questions you want because we have no other way to prove how smart we all are then by answering questions!

I have had a PRTalpha96 and now have a PRSalpha48 so let me know if I can help with anything. If you have questions feel free to call or post here. I am happy to take pictures of anything you have questions on when putting it together.
You made a very wise decision to go with ShopBot- I spent all last summer looking for a better machine in the under $50K price range.
Enjoy!

Welcome to the botter club Bill. I have a PRS Standard circa 2007 and love it. Prepare for lost sleep, wife telling to stop spending so much time in the shop and come for dinner and yes to make some mistakes. I think all would agree that you aren't truly a bothead until you break a bit, wreck a part or hit clamps.
Like Ed said if you any questions at all ask....we were all at the same place once. Have fun with your machine. I liked putting mine together as I officially know every nut and bolt in it. Makes trouble shooting easier.....but don't worry you won't have any troubles.:)

Welcome aboard! You have now joined one of the largest groups of insomniacs on the web! :)
1. Read all the docs before you turn the first bolt.
2. Then reread until you know where to look things up.
3. Have a really good level and tape measure on hand at all times.
4. Take a deep breath and dig in!
You are about to embark on a great and very fun journey.
5. Oh yeah, don't forget to have fun! :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'll be heading down to pick it up in a couple of hours. I'm just hooking up the trailer now. I'll keep you all posted on how the assembly is progressing.

Bill,
Your timing on all of this is pretty good; it's going to take you a few weeks to get the machine set up, and then you'll to want to cut a bunch of stuff. Just around then we'll be in Northern California (San Mateo actually), doing both a Camp and the accompanying Maker Faire-

By that point in time you WILL have a LOT of questions,so come on down and we'll try to answer them...
