in patrick spielmans book - making wood signs - page 141 and 142, there is some very nice texture work.
i called shopbot to find out who did the texture work and they were not sure. they told me to post on the forum. so here it is. does anyone know who did this?

I must have an old copy because in my book pages 141 and 142 are in the index.

bought mine 2009
the reason i called shopbot is because it is a picture(s) from shopbot tools

I am pretty sure that is a sample someone at ShopBot made. The texture just looks like repeated recessed dome shapes. From the appearance of the preview it looks like it was at least toolpathed in ArtCAM Pro.

Thanks,
James

Robert,

I have a copy of this book as well, are you talking about the picture that has V-Carve, 3d etc on a single piece of wood? I don't have it handy, but I think I remember the picture you mean.

Page 141 picture 11-7 background behind 3-D appears to be drilled pattern with v bit. 11-8 page 142 top left same detail.

Page 142 mid picture 11-9 carved raised beads tool path can be done in ArtCam or vectric Aspire. I would not be surprised if 3-D was carved and attached on top.

Last picture showes tool path in ArtCAm.

from the book.
you can enlarge at the bottom right of your screen with windows.
this might have been done in artrcam, but if you can do this in aspire i would like to pick your brain and learn how you did it.

you can do this in Aspire
take a look here for how to do it from bitmaps
http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=8436

do a search on Aspire/vectric board to do it with vectors - I think Tim Merril as well as others have some recent posts about it

use 2 rail sweeps

I like making money with my CNC.

I do a few router tricks, but they all lead in the same direction.

Hello all. I made the sign in the picture. All but the lower right portion (3d) are done with 2d and 2.5d machining after the vector layout is complete. the 3d portion was accomplished entirely with shape editor, which is create shape from vectors in aspire. The texture is an array of circles in case that is not evident in the picture / book. Any are welcome to email me if they have more questions about this or another project / technique.
