I took this photo while waiting for the customer pickup. It's one of my Yellow Pine adventures. I like this material for several reasons but it takes extra work getting it ready. Vertical grain pine is my favorite look when sandblasted.

Wish the photo's were larger, like they used to be.

Thanks Thomas.

The attached photo is showing my substitute for sandblast mask. It' plain old tempered masonite cut on the router. I attached it with a brad nailer.

Very nice Joe i like mesonite mask idea.
If you use mask such as this alot or attach parts during assembly you may want to invest in 23ga nailer, very thin pin almost to point that you do not need to fill hole.

You do very nice work! I assume you paint the lettering, before sandblasting. If so, do you retouch?

Dennis,

I don't paint prior to routing. After routing and sandblasting I brush on a generious coat of Block Out primer. From there it's foam rollers, brushes and my favorite Critter spray gun.

Ken Z was asking about the masonite. It was a last minute decision. I'm not fond of the traditional rubber SB mask. It's expensive, difficult to cut and can leave traces of adhesive behind. I thought I'd try some scrap masonite. It's now my favorite sb mask. Keep in mind, folks with a router can reduce the background down leaving little blasting work.

Thank you Joe for your post. I am a little laggy in posting because I am busy with the cabinet part of my business. Below is my first attempt at texture and also copying something with bit map tracing. This is not my logo. I also want to thank Raymond for taking the time to keep posting. I think that without Joe and Raymond posting this section would die. I appreciate everybody else who is posting. I really enjoy everybody's postings. I am really getting influenced by the forum. The sign is just a sample for customers. The only part that is hanging me up is the flowers. I have the DXF file. If anybody has any ideas about the flowers, I can send the file.

Joe, the pic below of the cowboy text and your post prompted my question.
I know several home builders who have built homes on speculation. Spec homes. I also know several home builders who built spec homes who wished they'd never heard of the word. Spec homes are tough today.

Do you or others build things on speculation? I've been amassing a great variety if idioms, sayings, and quirky ideas to fill my time during the long cold snowy winters.

What blows me away is the success of some on Cafe Press producing 2D ideas for bumper stickers, caps, mugs and what not. No investment other than say photoshop. People will spend 4 bucks for a piece of paper to stick on a bumper.......but will they say it in their home of office???
;-)

Mike,

My apology for not posting earlier to answer your question about magic sculpt. This material is epoxy made for manual use when making free hand sculptures. It can be found at most wholesale taxidermy companies. I'd suggest a google search.

Thanks Jack for the reminder.
