Okay here's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm designing a headboard for my daughter and I can use the Partworks program all day long to do this. But I'm wanting to incorporate some 3D elements such as ornate flowers, etc. into the headboard. I'm not sure how to go about doing this.
I've designed the headboard with the exception of the 3D work in Illustrator and then imported into Partworks2D. Is there a function in Partworks 2D that will allow me to include the 3D elements? Or do I do that separately in Partworks 3D? I'm just confused how to go about fusing the two. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for your help in advance! :)

Tanner,
To do what you want you need to use Partworks 3D/Cut3D or VectorArt3D's free Machinist program to first prepare the 3D model and calculate tool paths. Then you can import this into Partworks 2D and incorporate it into your design.
Partworks is the same as Vectric's V-Carve Pro and you can find good tutorials here, especially the 3rd one from the bottom:

The free Machinist program offered by VectorArt3D only works with their models, but you will find them all top quality and there is a good selection to choose from. On this page you will find a series of tutorials that will help, especially the one titled "VCP Import":

If they are models you have created yourself, they will need to be in one of the formats that Partworks 3D/Cut3D can open. Then you would prepare them like any other.

Tim pretty much nails it but when i have to use different programs for 3d or 2d one workaround I find is that if you use the outline of your headboard shape and circles or squares as "placeholders" so you know where your 3d carving is in relation to your 2d vcarving.

Not sure why you need a workaround as you will see a greyscale image of the 3D model in Partworks that you can position as part of your design.
Specifically which programs do you use Jack?
