I have some thin copper to cut .03 thick. I glue it down to some mdf. if I cut it with a straight or upcut bit it is fine. but if I use a 5 degree tapered endmill even with .01 passes the last pass just makes too much heat and the part pops loose. Changed rpms and cut speed but the piece gets hot to the touch. it barely gets warm with a non tapered it.

How about more details about the router / spindle speed and your feed rate? And what bit you are using?

I was using 8k and cutting between .5 and 1 ips. the tapered bit is just a tapered 2f endmill solid carbide 5 degrees.
I have cut the copper with a standard endmill and a straight 2f bit with those same settings in one or two passes without a problem. but if I use the tapered bit the part gets hot to the touch.
even if I cut it almost all the way through let the sheet cool and make the final pass.
