I have a satisfactory dust collector but it is now a direct connect to the Bot and I want to set up some ducts and blast gates so as to service other equipment.

Some mos ago when I was looking for replacement filters a botter had some clever ideas and suggestions that he used for this system but I cannot get to locate the message so, I am hoping some of you have some Do's and Dont's and remote activation ideas.

DC turn on options as I know them:

Long Ranger style push button remote
EcoGate style Sensor activated system with auto gates
SB controlled relays that are activated by software commands enabled by small changes to your post processors. Both dust collection and gates can be controlled using this method

SB controlled air powered gate action. Similar to this on a vac valve: http://www.youtube.com/user/Islaww1#p/u/9/iXJhTz-Jc7c

I have found the Long Ranger on Amazon and it looks reasonably priced ($46) and gates ($11) and, as I understand it, when one manually opens a gate the system is turned on.

I found the EcoGate web site and it seems to me to be quite sophisticated but I was unable to find pricing as yet - I will keep looking

I think I want to avoid the SB solution as it looks like I would need the computer on when using other equip or, am I wrong on this?

Thnx for the info

The SB version can be used side by side or as an enhancment to any of the above.

I have tapped into a remote control with my bot and have another remote in the shop that can be used no matter if the bot is on or not.

I don't have remote gates though. Maybe one day.

Gary:

Where can I find something to read on the SB alternative?

Les,

Shopbot doesn's have a remote that I am aware of.

They have switches that can be turned on and off with the normal files we run. Lots of folks use those switch outputs to make their dust coolection, vac hold down, or whatever work for their machine.

Gary may be willing to build what you need for you, but it's not going to be an off the shelf item that you buy.

Kenneth is correct. There is little or no documentation on what or how "things" can be controlled with the SB outputs. Like he says I have both steered other users in the right direction or custom made control units to their needs.

You can be sure that if it is needed on, for, or around a SB, that the SB controller can control it as per your wishes.

Gary:

Thnx for the info - I will probably bypass this for now, and as of the moment, I believe I will use LongRanger Multigate system that I think I can work with and then consider upgrading to better controls later. I did have an inquiry as to my interest in a used Eco Sys but I have not had a response yet - From what I have read, it sounds like a good but expensive system.

My dust collector is in a closet and out of reach (for the noise).
I control everything with X10 controls from Smarthome.com
The DC has an appliance socket which plugs into a receptical and then the
shop bot plugs into it.
I have a little controller beside my computer that when I am ready to cut a part,
I just hit the button to turn the DC on.
In the basement, I use a wireless transmitter and a little FOB (like a car door openner) to turn the DC on
and off.

There is a device that you should be able to connect to the contactors (I1-7 or o1-7) on the shopbot
so you can turn on or off the switch at the beginning of the shopbot program and this will signal the
DC to come on.

Bob, It sound like you are the person who mentioned this several mos ago and I appreciate your follow-up
