How to Modify Digitized Surface Data?

I'm a recent arrival here, searched the archive but wasn't too successful (though I suspect that this question has been pondered before).
I used the SB probe and collected point data from the surface of a sample part. The part includes some pockets I would like to remove from the surface model. I would also like to extend the surface beyond the edge of the original part.
This little job isn't paying enough to buy some expensive software. Any suggestions?

Sub the job out to someone who can make the mods you require. You need Aspire or ArtCAM to make the mods you mention.

Welcome aboard. Brady has your answer - I've had good results asking people here to help with file manipulation issues like this. With the right software it should only take a few minutes.

Thanks for your advice and sorry it's taken me so long to get back and thank you. Per your advice I finally did solve the problem with the help of some folks who spend a lot of time with 3D surface modeling. Just made some test cut in foam, making a few tweaks and and going to start making wood chips soon. Thanks again! dp
