Does anyone have first hand knowledge with ShopBot's Auto Tool Changer? I am intriged by it and wondered how they were working out. I have a HD 4hp spindle which would be replaced by the 5hp that comes with the auto changer. Since it would be put up for sale what would a fair price be for it? I have very low hours on it.

I will be able to give you a full report in 3 or 4 weeks, when my new PRS Alpha arrives.

I watched the changer work at the wood show and it looked like a winner. One question I can answer is that it comes with 6 tools and they said more could be purchased. He wasn't sure of the price but estimated they were between 150 and 200 dollars each.

I have been using mine, almost daily for about 3 months now. Dont know how I ever even cut anything without it. :) All in all, its a pretty good piece, but takes some getting used to.

The off table fixed zero, Z prox and the bit length daylite tracking is awesome. A few tweaks to the files for eCabs cutting and I am a very happy camper.

My machine came with 6 tools also. I have added 2 since. I can say that the tool holder, fork, collet and nut combo is just under $250 per set without shipping. This, of course, does not inlcude a bit.

If you have any other questions, post em up.

Question Is it possible to upgrade a new ( 12 month old ) prsalpha or just best to sell it and buy new.

There is no reason the parts wont just bolt on. Its a matter of what you can get for your machine or spindle alone vs. the price of either a complete new ATC machine or just the upgrade parts.

We are currently installing an ATC on a PRT Alpha that was purchased in 2004. So everything is fine.
