I'd been watching for a full size PRS Alpaa for quite some time without luck so a few weeks ago I bid on a 2005 PRT Alpha with a PC router and got it for $5,500 CAD, which seemed like a pretty good deal. Well, when I went to get it from the place that had seized it some months earlier, it was in pieces. That said, the gantry is all together and the siver controller box is still wired to the (non-geared) steppers. Also, the angle iron tracks are still mounted to the big channel irons but other than that the table is a whole bunch of pieces with no instructions and there was no PC with it. No problem to download the control software - but I'm not up to speed on how to run it anyway so here's the "dummy of the day" question.
Would it be practical for me to take the gantry (still attached to the controller) to some other bot user with a PRT alpha/same motors and for maybe a hundred bucks or two set it on one end of his table tracks, plug the controller into his PC with the control software already setup for my model of machine and make sure it still functions as it should by hooking up to his/her PC with control software???
I ask because, as luck would have it, a machine like I've been looking for became available today so I'm thinking that I'd like to sell the PRT Alpha but want to know that the important part of it is in proper working order so I don't diddle someone.
Any advise would be much appreciated :-)
Thanks much,
Gerry
