I have a job cutting a bunch of cardboard panels. they look like interior doors with cardboard on the inside and a smooth cardboard face on the outside. I am getting good results with a 1/4 inch compression bit. My issue is that the files I have to work from are PDFs and they won't import. I get an error message that says they only contain bit map data. Has anyone else run into this? The draftsman is working in Inventor but can output in AutoCad. I have tried DWG/DXF files but they don't import either.

Not sure what software you are using, but a dxf should "open" in Vectric like a regular file.

Try to open the dxf directly, rather than "import it"

Ask the draftsman if he can save-as .stl, .wrl, .vmrl, .igs or .iges.

Also...have you tried dragging and dropping the file onto the program you are using?

Working in Aspire. I have not tried to open the file directly.

Thanks

make sure it is unzipped or expanded. Do this with right mouse click options.

Then try to right click on the dxf and choose open with.... apire

It seems to me that I have imported pdf's into my Adobe photo editor and exported them as bmp's. Maybe (depending on your version of the pdf reader) you can capture the diagrams only and export them too. -h

Your cad Inventor person may have to save them to a "version 2000" dxf

I will try to import the pdfs into illustrator and then output from there.

Success!!!!!!!!!!

I opened the pdf in Adobe Illustrator and then saved it as a Pdf. It worked but still puzzled that it didn't work before.
