This is the footboard with the 2 watchtower columns. I am going to try Russ's painting technique (or convince him to jump in a winnabago and come here and show me in person!).
The headboard will be taller with taller towers and a second story on top of the wall with some other designs.

I don't have a wini will a Tioga do! Great looking piece. Grab some scrap and try various methods to find the one you like. Like I said there is no right or wrong way, just your way! :) I think the gate for the drawbridge needs a little sculpt neauveu. When doing the final weathering coloring there should be more weathering around the gate opening and around the window openings. Also some darkening under the edges of the parapits. It will be a great looking piece when done, very cool. How were the columns made, on your indexer? Russ

RUSS!
I got an email from the mom and the little girl wants it painted WHITE and PINK! No selfrespecting woodworker paints wood PINK! lol
I'm glad i didn't make this out of mahogany or walnut. Because of the circumstances with the little girl, i really don't care what color they paint it. We have a local University outreach program called Madison House at the University of Virginia and these college students would love to tackle a project like this so i put her in touch with them and i'll let them take care of that part.
I'm glad i found out before i went to the trouble of painting it.
I made the columns (half columns) flat on the table. They were 2 2x12's glued together. The first one I glued together and made as one 3" thick columnin one piece. I had clearance issues and tool topping out issues so i thought the second one i would try slicing. What a nightmare that turned into. It took 4 times as long to make and was a PITA. I'm sure most of it was my errors since i had never done it before.
Anyway the ones for the headboard will only be 1.5" thick due to the mattress so it will be a bit less hassle.
