Anyone know of a utiliity to convert .sldprt files into a format useable by partworks, DXF, etc... (other than paying 8k for a year of solidworks)?

I've seen a few posts asking folk here w/ solidworks to convert for them, and I may end up shooting out a request for help If I cant figure out another solution. I was just hoping someone might know of a utility that my Google-Fu is not coming up with.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

I use Alibre Design. They have a standard version for $99. I know it imports .sldprt files, but haven't tried it, yet. So, I don't know how well the conversion is done. If you like, you could send me one to try.

Best regards,
Ron

Hi Chris,

I just tried a .sldprt file from 8020 inc. Imported perfectly into Aspire...

Hey Ron, thxs for the heads up on alibre PE.

a buddy jumped in and translated the models I needed for the current project. But if I run into this again and dont find a better solution, I will definately keep it on radar.

Bill Polombo told me about Accutrans. it is a file converter program that is $20 and converts 3d files between different formats

I use Alibre to create all of my designs as well.

To get your designs out of Alibre an into PartWorks, you have to take the 3D Alibre model and convert it to a 2D Alibre Drawing (like a measured blue print.) The 2D drawing can then be exported as a dxf file, which you can import into PartWorks.

At least that's the only way I know how to do it...

@Ron, if you've found a better way PLEASE share!!!

Russ,

Nope, that's the way I do it - As far as I know, that's the only way Alibre projects the drawings to 2D for dfx export...
