Hey folks:
It's been a long time since I posted, but I've come back to my favorite help site...I've been contacted to make some reproduction Victorian fretwork for a home (porch) remodel. The pieces will be made from 1-1/2" thick 15# HDU and will be approximately 28" x 20". What I'm wondering about is the mounting. The architect was planning on using construction adhesive on the post and roof of the porch. That sounds pretty dangerous to me...I expect that expansion/contraction of the mounting surfaces will cause the HDU to crack or otherwise fail.
I was thinking of suggesting to simply drill slightly oversize counterbored holes in the HDU and use screws + washers to hold the fretwork in place. Anyway, I suspect someone on the board has run across this, or a similar issue. Any thoughts about the most bullet proof mounting technique?
